CARGO MARKING are notices, symbols and other marks on products, tare or package, or on sewed, glued or attached labels (tags). One distinguishes commodity, shipping, transportation and special marking.
- commodity marking of cargoes indicates the name of the goods, manufacture mark, grade, manufacturer's name, sequence number in the batch and order number;
- shipping marking is a fraction, in which the numerator indicates the cargo item number and the consignor's mark, and the denominator indicates the number of cargo items in the batch. Besides, the consignor's and consignee names, points of shipping and destination (including the transshipment point). All data contained in the shipping marking must match with those on the bill of lading. This kind of marking is done by the consignor.
- transportation marking is done by the port of shipping after the cargo has been accepted and checked for the availability and correctness of the shipping marking.
- special marking is done if the cargo required to be handled in a special manner as transported or transshipped. This kind of marking includes a number of precaution signs and/or their textual meaning, for instance: CAUTION, FRAGILE, AVOID HUMIDITY etc. The marking of imported cargoes must contain the following data: the number of the transportation order, the cargo item number, net and gross weight, point of destination, the consignee's name.
